We are looking for a web developer / system admin to help us update and maintain our digital archive tech stack.
The QZAP digital archive can be found at https://archive.qzap.org.
The system is a cloud-hosted VM running Debian Linux at Akamai/Linode. The software that weโre running is Collective Access (https://collectiveaccess.org/), a F/OSS digital asset manager.
Immediate needs/goals:
- system maintenance including OS and security updates
- Install latest version of Collective Access (Providence, currently 2.0.9) and configure it to use correct metadata profile
- develop / theme front end to ensure that PDF files (our main assets) are available and displayable on both desktop and mobile devices (Pawtucket, currently 2.0.9)
- migrate existing data / metadata from current CA instance (1.3), deployed in 2014
- test, test, test!
- help block AI bots while maintaining some degree of SEO
Longer term goals:
- ongoing system maintenance
- develop maintainable backup plan for off-server DB backups
- ongoing CA maintenance and upgrade paths
- implement Homosaurus vocabulary into our metadata schema
- building a public repository (GIT?) so that other projects can benefit from our tools
About us and the opportunity:
We are a 23 year old community-based digital archive of LGBTQ+ zines and ephemera. We are all volunteer member/workers on this project.
About you (or your skill set):
- interested in some aspects of queer history, punk publishing culture and zines, DIY, ethics, collectivism, metadata, storytelling and digital preservation, consensus-based organizing and development, community building, collaboration and sharing, etc.
- able to commit time and energy to seeing the project though milestones
- good with written and verbal communication and documentation
